This document sets out the strategy to address the primary challenge of Botswana, which is to diversify the economy to ensure that Botswana continues to enjoy the fruits of sustained economic growth post depletion of minerals, especially diamonds. This paper explores the high dependency of a number strategy countries of the Southern African Development Community SADC on mineral resources, and the relative lack of expected social benefits from the extractive industries sector in these countries.
