Remove asbestos Main Library Redevelopment Project, EUL primarily serves the Edinburgh University students, staff and academic visitors around 18, undergraduate and 7, Masters and Doctoral students, and over 2, staff. The renovations in EUL are being completed in stages. The Ground, First, Fifth and Sixth Floors are complete. Electronic and print materials will support multidisciplinarity. The Library will be more open and accessible by openning for longer hours and allowing easy navigation. The EUL will provide a place for users to work together and converse with each other and information specialists both physically and virtually. The following are features of the renovations completed in the Main Library building: On the Ground Floor automated Self Return machines have been added, a new Helpdesk and three large glass projections screens, HUB High Use Book seating and collection, informal seating in the Forum and copy area, a Library Cafe, and a feature wall. A library computer lab and study areas provide open, individual quiet work spaces. Library users can work together and collaborate in small groups in the new "study pods. All have wireless access to allow for easy laptop use. On the Fifth Floor, is now a seat quiet study space with a variety of seating types from study cubicles, open desks, comfy soft arm strategy with an amazing view to cozy nooks. New modern bathroom facilities have also been installed. The Centre for Research University has been refurbished on the Sixth Floor with a light, airy feel using glass dividers. The Centre hosts new digital-imaging and conservation suites, a seminar room and reading and research rooms. A priority of the design team of the redeveloped Main Library is to build on and enhance the existing features and materials including the original Library furniture. The University of Edinburgh Development Trust has made a University Library Appeal and Challenge appeals to match large donations for specific portions of the renovation project such as art work. The poems can be found on the shelf ends and on 50, bookmarks interleaved within books throughout the library. Challenges include the fact that the renovations are taking place within an functioning facility, and that the building is listed at Category A historic building.
